Knorr-Bremse DETC Commercial Vehicle Braking Technology Co., Ltd. (Knorr-Bremse DETC) recently held the groundbreaking ceremony at a 50,000 m2 site in Dongfeng Industrial Park where a new plant is to replace the company’s three separate existing factories.

In the city of Solingen, they are playing a key role in the electrification of the entire bus fleet: battery trolleybuses with In Motion Charging (IMC^®) technology from Kiepe Electric, a subsidiary of Knorr-Bremse, the global market leader for braking and other systems for rail and commercial vehicles.

As traffic on urban roads increases, so does the risk of accidents. Pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists, as well as new road users like electric scooter riders, are all especially at risk.

Knorr-Bremse, the world’s leading manufacturer of braking and other systems for rail and commercial vehicles, has been awarded a supply contract by trailer and bus manufacturer NEFAZ, a subsidiary of the KAMAZ Group. The scope of supply includes more than 4,500 trailer EBS systems, NEFAZ’s full requirement for the next three years, underpinning Knorr-Bremse’s market position in the trailer segment in Russia.

Knorr-Bremse, today announced that the company closed the acquisition of R.H. Sheppard Co., Inc., Hanover, Pennsylvania, USA (“Sheppard”) on June 1, 2020. The contract was signed on January 30, 2020. The purchase price amounts to USD $149.5 million. Sheppard is an industry-leading manufacturer of steering systems for commercial vehicles in the North American market. The acquisition of Sheppard marks another important step in Knorr-Bremse’s strategic drive to become a leading global supplier of commercial vehicle steering systems following its earlier acquisition of the Hitachi steering business in 2019.

A consortium formed by Knorr-Bremse, the global market leader for braking and other rail and commercial vehicle systems, and John von Neumann University in Kecskemét, Hungary, has successfully completed a joint 27-month research project. The focus of the project was on alternative raw materials – particularly polymer and rubber materials – and technologies for use in the commercial vehicle industry. The research findings will feed into Knorr-Bremse's research and development strategy and activities in the long term.

Sheppard Co., Inc., USA (“Sheppard”). Sheppard is one of the leading manufacturers of steering systems for commercial vehicles on the North American market. With the acquisition of Sheppard, Knorr-Bremse is broadening its international position in the field of steering systems, having already achieved a major expansion in Asia with the acquisition of the commercial vehicle steering division of Hitachi Automotive Systems in Japan in spring 2019.
