Integrated Fleet Tire and Monitoring Solution for Cement Logistics

Continental has strengthened its long-term tire supply relationship with building materials producer CEMEX by supplying an integrated portfolio of new tires, retreaded tires and digital monitoring systems exclusively to the company’s UK fleet. Over more than a decade of collaboration, this solution set has been positioned by Continental as a differentiator against competing tire suppliers by combining traditional premium tire products with connected monitoring technology designed to reduce downtime and enhance operational efficiency for heavy commercial fleets.

Enhanced Reliability for Harsh Operating Conditions
CEMEX’s UK operations involve a large and diverse vehicle fleet exposed to demanding conditions, including rough terrain and frequent load changes. Historically, tire-related failures and the resulting vehicle downtime represented a major operational cost and disruption. In response, Continental’s comprehensive tire strategy for CEMEX covers both newly manufactured premium tires and retreaded tires from its Bandvulc brand, selected to withstand the company’s specific usage environment. By standardizing on Continental as the sole tire supplier in the region, CEMEX aimed to improve the durability and performance of its vehicle tires compared with previous arrangements that relied on multiple suppliers.

Digital Tire Monitoring for Proactive Fleet Management
Central to Continental’s offering is its ContiConnect digital tire monitoring system. Mounted sensors continuously measure inflation pressure and temperature, transmitting real-time data to displays in the driver’s cab and to remote fleet management platforms. ContiConnect is configured to issue alerts when readings deviate from predetermined thresholds, enabling proactive maintenance before failures occur. This contrasts with more traditional fleet tire management approaches that rely on periodic manual checks. At CEMEX’s facility yards, additional reader stations supplement in-vehicle data, and email alerts enable both the transport team and service providers to anticipate issues and schedule interventions, significantly reducing surprise breakdowns.

Impact on Safety and Efficiency
The introduction of Continental’s integrated tire and monitoring solution has improved both safety and operational workflows across CEMEX’s UK fleet. Continuous monitoring of tire conditions provides early detection not only of deflation events but also of heat trends indicative of brake or wheel bearing issues, allowing these to be addressed before they escalate. By reducing tyre-related breakdowns, Continental’s system contributes to lower unplanned maintenance, improved vehicle uptime and better overall fuel economy compared with fleets not using real-time tire data.

Evolution of Long-Term Collaboration
The partnership originated in 2011 when CEMEX began using retreaded tires from Continental and adopted the ContiConnect system early in its deployment lifecycle. Over subsequent years, CEMEX has been engaged in collaborative testing and feedback loops with Continental, trialing new tire models and providing operational insights that Continental uses to refine product development. This iterative exchange has reinforced the technical fit of Continental’s products for CEMEX’s specific fleet demands and contributed to a durable supplier relationship that the company regards as beneficial for both operational performance and product innovation.

By integrating premium tire products with continuous digital monitoring and proactive maintenance workflows, Continental positions its solutions as addressing the dual challenges of reliability and efficiency in heavy commercial operations more comprehensively than traditional tire supply arrangements. This differentiated approach aligns with CEMEX’s operational priorities in the UK and supports ongoing efforts to optimize fleet performance under demanding conditions.
