Porsche brings four-digit performance from racetrack to electric SUV
Porsche unites heritage and electrification as the legendary Porsche 917/30 meets the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric, the brand’s first production model to exceed 1,000 PS.

At the FAT Ice Race in Zell am See, two eras of performance engineering come together: the iconic Porsche 917/30 and the all-new Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric. One was built to dominate Can-Am racing in the 1970s; the other represents Porsche’s most powerful series-production vehicle to date—now breaking the four-digit power barrier in everyday use.
From motorsport legend to electric flagship
In 1973, the 917/30 redefined racing performance. Producing up to 1,100 PS—and later 1,230 PS in record configuration—it set benchmarks in turbocharging and aerodynamics. In 1975, Mark Donohue achieved a closed-course record at Talladega, averaging 355.85 km/h—an achievement that cemented the car’s place in motorsport history.
Today, the Cayenne Turbo Electric translates that boundary-pushing philosophy into the electric age. Delivering up to 850 kW (1,156 PS), it accelerates from 0–100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds. With charging capacity up to 400 kW and a range exceeding 600 kilometres (WLTP), it combines extreme performance with everyday usability. It is the most powerful production Porsche ever built—engineered not just for speed, but for versatility.
Performance redefined for modern mobility
Unlike the uncompromising race-focused 917/30, the Cayenne Turbo Electric blends athletic road dynamics, off-road capability and long-distance comfort. Instant electric torque, precisely managed all-wheel drive and advanced thermal and battery management systems ensure repeatable, controllable performance under diverse driving conditions.
Despite their contrasting purposes, both vehicles share a common thread: engineering ambition, technological leadership and the relentless drive to redefine limits.
A symbolic meeting at Zell am See
Their joint appearance at the FAT Ice Race highlights how Porsche’s performance DNA evolves across generations. On snow and ice—a surface long associated with the brand’s heritage—the historic 917/30 and the new Cayenne Turbo Electric stand side by side.
Together, they represent a “More-than-1,000-PS” philosophy that connects motorsport legacy with electrified innovation—demonstrating how Porsche continues to combine progress with heritage.
