The transition to electric mobility is often hindered by charging infrastructure that lacks aesthetic appeal and user-centric functionality. To address these challenges and differentiate its network from standard industrial charging stations, Plenitude, through its subsidiary Plenitude On The Road, has established a strategic partnership with the renowned design house Pininfarina. This collaboration aims to transform charging areas from mere utility points into high-quality architectural spaces that offer a superior user experience compared to traditional market alternatives.
A New Standard in Infrastructure Design
While most competitors focus primarily on technical specifications, the partnership between Plenitude and Pininfarina prioritizes the harmonious integration of technology into urban and territorial environments. Pininfarina’s role involves overseeing the aesthetics, ergonomics, and material quality of the hubs. The objective is to create a distinctive and recognizable visual identity for Plenitude’s network, ensuring that charging stations are not only functional but also contribute positively to the architectural landscape of their surroundings.
Enhancing the Charging Experience
The project moves beyond the hardware of the charging points to address the time drivers spend waiting. By focusing on "user experience" design, the collaboration seeks to introduce innovative services that make the charging process more transparent, intuitive, and comfortable. This holistic approach is designed to meet the evolving needs of e-drivers who increasingly demand personalized and high-quality services during their journey, moving away from the "stop-and-wait" model toward a more integrated lifestyle experience.
Practical Implementation and Sustainability
The initiative is currently being realized through a pilot installation at Pininfarina’s headquarters in Cambiano, Turin. This site features four Plenitude On The Road charging points, including two 22 kW alternating current (AC) chargers and two 50 kW direct current (DC) chargers. This practical application serves as a testing ground for the new design concepts and aligns with both companies' environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals.
By combining Plenitude's extensive technological expertise—managing a network of approximately 23,000 charging points—with Pininfarina’s legacy in world-class design, the partnership seeks to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles by making the necessary infrastructure more welcoming and accessible to the public.
