Arkema and Bostik are collaborating to deploy integrated material solutions for electric vehicle and energy storage system battery packs. This technical cooperation combines specialized fluoropolymers and polyamides with advanced structural adhesives to optimize cell-to-pack assembly and thermal management.

Industrial Challenges in Battery Cell Integration
The rapid scaling of lithium iron phosphate cathode chemistry and next-generation solid-state battery technologies requires heightened structural integrity, efficient thermal dissipation, and electrical insulation. Battery pack manufacturing demands materials that withstand high voltages and thermal stress while supporting automated assembly lines to increase processing efficiency.

Integrated Material Solution and Technical Architecture
To address these operational demands, Arkema provides specialized polyvinylidene fluoride binders, polyimides, and high-performance polyamides, while Bostik delivers complementary thermal interface materials and structural adhesives. At the system level, the polyimide and polyamide materials provide dielectric strength and thermal resistance for busbar insulation and flexible printed circuit boards within battery management systems. Simultaneously, two-component methyl methacrylate and polyurethane structural adhesives secure the cell-to-pack integration, maintaining mechanical stability under mechanical loads.

Thermal Management and Industrial Automation Integration
The combined technologies utilize specialized polyamide formulations for cooling lines and connectors alongside high-performance thermal interface materials to accelerate heat dissipation. For manufacturing scaling, the partners integrate fast-curing ultraviolet resins and structural bonding agents that align with modern industrial automation processes, shortening production cycle times. Additionally, the implementation of debond-on-demand primers allows for controlled disassembly, improving the maintainability and recycling efficiency of the battery modules.

Technical Validation and Deployment
The technical compatibility of these material systems will be demonstrated at The Battery Show Europe 2026 in Stuttgart, Germany, from June 2 to June 4, 2026. The technical validation includes evaluation of dry-electrode manufacturing compatibility at a specialized laboratory in France, where dry-process-capable binders are optimized to eliminate solvent recovery phases, thereby reducing manufacturing energy requirements and production costs.
