ASC and Future Tech expand crash test sensor offering

German sensor manufacturer ASC Sensors has entered into a partnership with Shanghai Future Technology Co., Ltd. (Future Tech) to expand its automotive testing portfolio with piezoresistive crash test sensors. The cooperation provides automotive manufacturers and testing laboratories in most European Union countries with access to sensor technology for the development and validation of passive safety systems.

Applications in passive automotive safety
The cooperation addresses testing requirements in vehicle development, particularly for passive safety systems used to reduce occupant and pedestrian injuries during collisions. The sensor portfolio supports whole-vehicle crash testing, anthropomorphic test device (ATD) evaluations, and pedestrian impact testing, enabling manufacturers to collect acceleration data for structural validation and injury assessment.

ASC Sensors serves as the exclusive representative for Future Tech throughout the European Union, excluding Italy and Spain. While ASC provides regional sales, technical support and customer engagement, Future Tech contributes its expertise in the design and manufacture of piezoresistive accelerometers based on MEMS technology.

Technical solution and partner responsibilities
The cooperation combines ASC's established presence in automotive sensor applications with Future Tech's portfolio of piezoresistive accelerometers. The sensors measure both static and dynamic acceleration over wide measurement and frequency ranges, making them suitable for crash testing where high-speed impact events and constant acceleration measurements are required.

Depending on the application, sensor weights range from 0.3 g to 10 g. Configuration options include different cable lengths, connector types and integration of Dallas DS2401 identification chips. The sensors employ Wheatstone bridge circuitry to convert resistance changes caused by mechanical deformation into electrical voltage signals for precise acceleration measurement.

Future Tech's crash test sensors comply with industry standards including SAE J211 for crash test instrumentation and SAE J2570 for accelerometers used in Anthropomorphic Test Devices.

Deployment across automotive testing
The partnership enables ASC to provide engineering support and access to Future Tech's sensor portfolio for European automotive manufacturers, suppliers and crash test centres. The sensors can be integrated into existing crash testing infrastructure for vehicle validation, dummy instrumentation and pedestrian protection testing.

The cooperation expands ASC's automotive activities beyond active safety applications, allowing the company to support testing throughout both active and passive vehicle safety development.

Expected operational impact
By combining regional application support with specialised sensor manufacturing, the partnership broadens access to crash test instrumentation for automotive development projects. The sensor portfolio supports repeatable acceleration measurements required for vehicle certification, component validation and compliance with established automotive testing standards.
