Porsche is expanding its electromobility strategy with the in-house development and production of high-voltage battery modules for the next-generation Cayenne Electric. Designed to deliver maximum performance, efficiency, and quality, the new battery system strengthens Porsche’s technological expertise while reinforcing its commitment to European manufacturing.

Smart Battery Shop: advanced production in Europe
At the core of this initiative is the Porsche Smart Battery Shop in Horná Streda, Slovakia, developed in collaboration with Porsche Werkzeugbau GmbH. This state-of-the-art facility combines product development, prototype expertise, and series production within a single integrated environment.

Spanning over 40,000 square meters, the plant enables seamless transfer from development to industrial-scale manufacturing, accelerating time-to-market and ensuring consistent quality.

High-performance module design
Each battery module is engineered through a highly controlled process, where 32 individual cells are assembled into precision-aligned stacks. Six modules form the complete high-voltage battery system used in the Cayenne Electric.

Advanced manufacturing steps—including automated laser welding, thermal management integration, and structural bonding—ensure optimal electrical performance, durability, and heat dissipation.

Precision manufacturing and quality assurance
The production process follows strict standards for cleanliness and electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection, ensuring reliability at every stage. Real-time data acquisition and cloud-based traceability provide full transparency across the manufacturing lifecycle.

Each module undergoes comprehensive end-of-line testing, including electrical validation, leak detection, functional checks, and visual inspections, guaranteeing consistent performance and safety.

Engineered for durability and performance
To meet Porsche’s demanding standards, battery systems are rigorously validated under extreme conditions. Testing includes high-temperature exposure and immersion scenarios to ensure long-term durability, charging capability, and operational stability.

Seamless integration into vehicle production
Following validation, battery modules are equipped with high-voltage components and delivered directly to the vehicle assembly line using just-in-sequence logistics. This approach optimizes production efficiency and supports scalable electric vehicle manufacturing.

Sustainable production approach
The Smart Battery Shop is designed with sustainability in mind. Renewable energy sources, including photovoltaic systems, and energy-efficient heat pumps contribute to reduced CO₂ emissions. Additional features such as green roofing and on-site water supply further support environmental responsibility.

With this new generation of in-house battery technology, Porsche strengthens its position in high-performance electromobility—combining advanced engineering, digitalized production, and sustainable manufacturing to power the future of electric driving.
