New BYD ATTO 3 – Compact SUV to star at IAA Mobility 2023

BYD unveils the BYD ATTO 3, a spacious front-wheel drive C-segment SUV at IAA Mobility 2023, featuring advanced electric vehicle technology and smart connectivity, combining modern aesthetics with exceptional efficiency and intelligence.

The elegant BYD ATTO 3 has been designed with the European customer in mind, providing a stylish and fun inspired choice, complete with very high levels of standard equipment. The four models will feature in the range are: ‘Active SE’, ‘Active’, ‘Comfort’ and the range topping ‘Design’ trim levels.

Blending Culture with Modern Lifestyles
Perfectly proportioned in a design led by BYD’s Design Director, Wolfgang Egger, the BYD ATTO 3 with its distinctive sloping silhouette has been optimised for aero efficiency with a drag coefficient of just 0.29 Cd.

The design is a fusion of Chinese culture and modern European tastes adopting the next evolution of the BYD Dragon Face design language which takes inspiration from thousands of years of Chinese culture. The BYD ATTO 3 features expressive lines and front ‘facial’ design cues inspired by ancient dragons such as the LED headlights and horizontal brushed grille bar which symbolise the eyes and moustache of the mythical creatures.




“The BYD design is expressive and emotional, as well as clean and relevant”, says BYD Global Designer Wolfgang Egger. “Designing BYD ATTO 3 we wanted to create a very fresh, spacious and youthful feeling to attract young people and families. We were inspired by the Chinese dragon, which we call the Dragon Face Design language. Its distinctive moustache, the skin and the dragon eyes are all elements that are portrayed in BYD ATTO 3”.




Measuring 4,455 mm in length and 2,050 mm wide (with wing mirrors unfolded), the BYD ATTO 3 enjoys a 2,720 mm wheelbase which is optimised for space and comfort. Accessed via keyless entry, inside is a spacious cabin of innovative and intelligent digital technology. The unique interior features gym-inspired design touches such as the barbell style door handles, kettlebell style gear selector, and free weight style air events.




Ergonomically designed sports seats
With seating for 5 occupants, the ergonomically designed sports seats and headrests are made from vegan leather. The heated front seats have six-way electric adjustment for the driver, and four-way electric adjustment for the front passenger. The rear seats provide generous legroom for passengers, made possible by the e-Platform 3.0. The seats can be split 60:40 allowing the 440-litre boot to be expanded to 1138 litres when both seats are folded flat.




As well as the multi-functional vegan leather steering wheel, there is a 5-inch LCD instrument panel and a brushed metal centre console. The central armrest which takes its inspiration from a treadmill provides storage and a smartphone wireless charging docking station. A panoramic glass sliding sunroof with sunshade, as standard, makes the cabin light and airy. Multi-coloured ambient lighting creates the perfect ambience, and even responds to musical rhythm to make the cabin come alive even further.




Continuing the sports theme and the love of the great outdoors, BYD ATTO 3 is available in four vibrant metallic colours: Surfing Blue, Climbing Grey, Skiing White, Parkour Red.

Next Level Ultra-Safe, Ultra-Efficient EV Technology
BYD ATTO 3 benefits from the ground-breaking Blade Battery which is revolutionising safety, durability and performance in the EV industry, and can withstand the harsh punishment of the Nail Penetration Test, regarded as the ‘Mount Everest’ of battery safety tests. The cobalt-free Blade Battery uses Lithium Iron-Phosphate (LFP) as its cathode material, which offers a much higher level of safety than conventional lithium-ion batteries. LFP has inherently excellent thermal stability. The Blade Battery, while being ultra-safe and durable, is uncompromising in performance, delivering high power density with the benefit of ultra-low energy consumption.




This works in close synergy with BYD’s competency in electric powertrain technology. ATTO 3 is the first SUV to be built on BYD’s intelligent e-Platform 3.0 for the ultimate in system efficiency and integrated vehicle intelligence. BYD’s 8-in-1 electric powertrain integrates the Vehicle Control Unit; the Battery Management System; the Power Distribution Unit; the Drive Motor; the Motor Controller; Transmission; DC-DC; On-Board Charger. Such deep integration delivers 89% system efficiency.

There is also the high efficiency integrated heat pump as standard on the BYD ATTO 3, the industry’s first direct cooling and heating system for power batteries increasing the thermal efficiency by up to 20% in the winter. The innovative system leverages the residual heat from surroundings, the powertrain, passenger compartment and even the batteries, and can work at a wide range of temperatures. Intelligent thermal management for extreme weather conditions enables an excellent low temperature driving range.

Developed exclusively for pure-electric vehicles, the e-Platform 3.0 is leading the way for the next generation of intelligent electric mobility. Improved intelligent experiences enable faster responsiveness and enhanced safety in extreme conditions.




Combined, this integrated technology has been developed to deliver optimum performance and a better driving experience. With the 60.48 kWh Blade Battery combined with permanent magnet synchronous motor, the BYD ATTO 3 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.3 seconds. The 310 Nm of torque and 150kW/204 ps strong motor provides seamless performance helping the ATTO 3 reach a maximum top speed of 160 km/h. There are four driving modes: Sport Mode, Normal Mode, Economy Mode and Snow Mode to suit driving conditions and preferences.

BYD ATTO 3 has a reassuring WLTP electric range of 420 kilometres and 565 kilometres city range with energy consumption as low as 15.6kW/100 km (WLTP). Charging power is 11 Kw AC 3 phase. High performance is also achieved when it comes to recharging. With 150KW DC charger, the battery can be replenished from 30% to 80% in just 29 minutes. BYD is also equipped with VtoL so external devises can easily be charged by the car battery.




Driver and Safety Technology as Standard
Smart connectivity and leading infotainment are other primary elements of the BYD ATTO 3, which is equipped with BYD Intelligent Cockpit System bringing leading technology experiences, and Over The Air (OTA) updates as part of the cloud service. GPS Navigation features as standard.




A focal feature inside the BYD ATTO 3 is unique the 12.8 rotatable screen (15.6 inch on Design version) with voice recognition delivering an abundance of connected experiences, and integrated Apps including Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The eight-speaker Dirac Performance Audio System provides premium quality sound, and smartphone wireless charging is another convenient feature.

Safety & Driving Assistance
There is an abundance of safety and advanced driver assistance features as standard equipment in the ATTO 3. All models feature Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Rear Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Brake, Lane Keep Assistance, Lane Change Assist, and Emergency Lane Keep.




In addition, further driver aids include Blind Spot Detection System, ESP, Traction Control, Hill Decent Control, Automatic Vehicle Hold, Intelligent Speed Limit Information, and Intelligent Speed Limit Control. The driving experience is improved by Adaptive Cruise Control and Intelligent Cruise Control. The panoramic camera provides 360-degree visibility for the driver for safe manoeuvring of the vehicle.

Cutting edge lighting technology also provides a wider beam of light to assist visibility when driving at night, with High Beam Assist, Adaptive Front Headlights and Follow Me Home as standard.
